Tuning vocals is a bit of a controversial subject.
Some consider it cheating. Others use it heavily as a stylistic preference.
I tend to sit somewhere in the middle, using it to enhance my vocal recordings without overdoing it.
In today’s video, I will show you my workflow for tuning vocals in Melodyne. My method is relatively simple, as I depend on having a vocal track that is already pretty good. I don’t use tuning to fix lots of problems. I use it to just tighten up my vocal recordings a little bit.

1. Do you bounce out each section after tuning?
2. If you upgrade to to LPX, you will absolutely love flex pitch! Its monophonic unlike my polyphonic melodyne.
3. Your absolutely correct about tuning; its an art. My learning curve was very painful!!

1. No. I bounce out the whole thing at the end though. I’d rather mix the bounced version and not have to have Melodyne working in the background at that point.
2. Yeah, flex pitch does look nice! I’m sure I’ll manage to upgrade one of these days 🙂
3. It certainly is an art, and it can be very painful. Definitely helps to spend a little time practicing and capturing a good performance to start with.
